Biography
Robert Johnson was born in Raleigh, NC at Wake Medical Center. He was raised in Dunn, North Carolina. In his youth he played baseball, soccer, lacrosse and was in the Boy Scouts. Graduating from Triton High School in 2003 it was only weeks later he left for Marine Corps Recruit Depot in Parris Island, South Carolina. After months of training at boot camp he earned the title Marine and joined the ranks of Americas’ most agile fighting force, the Marine Corps. Private Johnson went on to the School of Infantry, was promoted to Private First Class and became a mortarman. From the School of Infantry he joined the Fleet Marine Force and received orders to 2nd Battalion 2nd Marine Regiment (2/2) , stationed at Camp Lejeune in Jacksonville, NC.
In March of 2004, three months after joining the Fleet Marine Force PFC Johnson deployed to Iraq. While serving in Iraq Johnson’s Battalion, known as the Warlords partook in stability and support operations. They were also involved in the Battle of Fallujah in April, 2004. In the battle Private First Class Johnson was wounded when his platoon came under ambush by two machine gun bunkers. After this battle he was awarded the Purple Heart and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal for Valor and Heroic Service when he and his gunner destroyed those machine gun bunkers with their handheld 60mm mortar. Later in that tour PFC Johnson was promoted to Lance Corporal.
While back in Camp Lejeune Lance Corporal Johnson was made a squad leader with his own gun and crew. After a mere 8 months Johnson returned to Iraq for a second tour in July, 2005. The heavy fighting seen in 2004 was over, the enemy’s tactics had changed and the need for mortars was rare. His weapons platoon was converted into a rifle platoon to adapt to the enemy. During this tour, his battalion the Warlords helped secure a now quiet Fallujah during the countries first ever Democratic Election. At the end of the 7 month tour Lance Corporal Johnson signed papers to extend his tour by cross decking which would transfer him to another battalion in Iraq. He was denied.
After returning to Camp Lejeune he was soon transferred to Head Quarters Battalion as he did not have enough time to deploy again. Working in the Head Quarters Battalion Armory he facilitated the issue of thousands of weapons when they deployed to Iraq in 2006/2007. While serving in HQ Battalion he was promoted to Corporal. Corporal Johnson was honorably discharged in July, 2007 having given the Corps and his Country 4 years of service.
Robert Johnson is a man that sees the hindrances to Liberty and stands up to injustice. He is a man that exercises his rights as a free American citizen and supports the Constitution he took an oath to defend. That is an oath that Robert Johnson carries with him to this day, because he realizes that the greatest enemies of freedom do not live thousands of miles away in a town by the Euphrates. The greatest enemies of our freedoms are right here at home. They are the ones who support legislation such as the Constitution shredding Patriot Act, suspend Habeas Corpus, support oppressive taxation, those who support NAFTA, Gun Control or the Failed Drug War. Robert Johnson is now running for US Congress in District 13 of North Carolina to take the fight to Washington D.C. He needs your help to restore our Freedoms and PUT AMERICA FIRST!
